My name is Alan and I’ve been a pro photographer for ages. I set up and still run one of the busiest and, I think best, photo studios in Bristol. I work all over the place for some big-name clients and was one of the very first photographers in the UK to go completely digital back in the early days around 2000 – I’ve been at the “bleeding-edge” of digital developments ever since (although I still love going back to film on occasion- see pic).
Over the years I’ve photographed a huge range of subjects using every type of camera and lighting you could imagine in locations all over the World so I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks along the way. Photography’s not that hard, honest ! But it can be daunting to start with and great photography can be a fickle thing to get right – I’ve been teaching for a few years now and have had the honour of seeing some of my students go on to produce stunning work and even win prizes. Of course most just want to improve a little or simply master the controls – fine, I can steer you gently and considerately as far as you’d like to go.
In addition to commercial work I love spending my spare time snapping my own family and landscapes because I live and breathe photography – I’m being paid to do my hobby! I moved into photography from a scientific background in my late twenties as it’s what I really love doing most.
For you, I hope that I can transmit some of my huge enthusiasm and help to demystify the whole process of producing great images.
